Where Did We Miss?

Talking with friends, people I meet on a regular basis, I realized that many of us make a bigger a deal of meditation than it actually is. For some people, meditation is somewhat of a discipline, and for others it's the discipline about meditation that makes them run away from it. People, organizations, and any other form of disciplinary establishment we look to for guidance, tell us that meditation is disciplinary in its formality and requires a certain set of rules.

What am I talking about? There's a question always hanging in the back of our head, who set these rules upon us?

There are two types of meditation, one for relaxation, and the other is a more profound way of getting to know yourself through inner development or spirit communication. So meditation is the time we take to go within ourselves for peace and tranquility in order to better understand ourselves and who we are, and to have a few moments to disconnect from the outside world.

My personal perspective on meditation is simple. When you start meditating in the beginning, start with a free style meditation. You don't have to be sitting in the right position, just have your hands on your lap facing upward, preferably no light or maybe some candles, and with your eyes closed. This could be a turn off for many. Just take the most comfortable position with the least physical restrictions. Meditate to relax and have some time for yourself and nothing else and with time you will find and develop your own style.

Personally, I find that meditation is even much simpler than that, and anyone can do it and eventually almost all of us use it on a daily basis without even realizing it.

In the early stages of my spiritual development, I realized that I had been more productive in my walking meditation, as I call it, than sitting in an awkward position that my body was uncomfortable with and losing my concentration in the first place. Walking is my favorite activity and I have always enjoyed it. It makes me relax and I enjoy a steady breathing and fresh air. My communication with my inner self and my guides is more clear because I lose all limitation imposed upon me or that I have imposed upon myself.

Now, your role is to find out what activity (eating food is not an activity as we like to believe!) makes you feel good, relaxed, and that you enjoy doing alone. That's all that meditation is about!!!

So if your problem is that you always complain that you can't concentrate in meditation - just do your own favorite activity at your own rhythm for a start.

A disciplinary meditation is still a good option for many people, but always tries to remember that we do have other alternatives too.

As we can see there are different types of meditation - just do what you think is best suited for YOU! Enjoy and cherish the time you spend within yourself.

Now what is your excuse from not meditating, eh? Life is simple so let's not complicate it in our head!!!

Until next time, love and peace and happy meditation?
